smile.it.cx, or Smileys
smile.it.cx, which is known by no other real name (except maybe Smileys), is a little site I made to help me organize and use my massively large collection of smileys. I figured I should make a database and a scripted-downloader that worked together to sort the smileys by the number of times they were loaded, keeping the important ones on top and cropping off the unused ones.
I'd have to say it's been overwhelmingly successful and useful. I still have a very basic script serving the smileys up, but it's better than dumping them all out on one page, my original design. It's also got some bugs, but I'm too lazy to be asked to fix them. Blah.
This small site has gotten me a nasty exchange of emails with a supposed smiley "author" once upon a time. The poor nutjob couldn't defend his case worth a crap, considering I wasn't using them on any particular site or in a place other than a forum, so it just died off. That was actually the first time, out of eh... well, two (one being Microsoft for my old BitTorrent tracker), that I actually stood up to someone and told them to go auto-copulate. Politely.
